Invasion of cranial nerves by salivary cylindroma: four cases treated by radiotherapy.
نویسنده
چکیده
Four cases of adenoid cystic carcinoma (cylindroma) of accessory salivary tissue are described, and the diagnostic difficulties experienced are emphasized. The tumour infiltrates cranial and other nerves and may invade the central nervous system by this route. It is highly malignant and may metastasize widely both by haematogenous and lymphatic pathways. The tumour is radiosensitive and it is suggested that the treatment of choice is radiotherapy combined, when possible, with surgical excision of the primary lesion. Metastases should be treated with radiotherapy since useful remission may occur.

متن کاملPostoperative radiotherapy in patients with salivary duct carcinoma: clinical outcomes and prognostic factors
This study sought to investigate the clinical outcome and the role of postoperative radiotherapy for patients with salivary duct carcinoma (SDC) who had undergone surgery and postoperative radiotherapy. We performed a retrospective analysis of 25 SDC patients treated between 1998 and 2011 with surgery and postoperative radiotherapy. The median prescribed dose was 60 Gy (range, 49.5-61.4 Gy). Th...
متن کامل18F-FDG PET/CT in Neurolymphomatosis: Report of 3 Cases
Neurolymphomatosis is a rare manifestation of non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by infiltration of peripheral nerves, nerve roots, plexus and cranial nerves by malignant lymphocytes. This report presents positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT)imaging with 2-deoxy-2-18F-fluoro-D-glucose (18F-FDG) in 3 cases of non-Hodgkin lymphoma with nerve infiltration, including one newly d...
متن کاملCentral salivary gland tumors of jaws.
Nine cases of central salivary gland tumors of the jaws were seen during the period 1962-1968. Four patients were in the sixth decade; they all presented with swelling of one of the jaws. Pain was unusual. X-ray of the mandible revealed either a diffuse rarefaction or a multiloculated cystic appearance. Four patients had a cylindroma, 3 had mucoepidermoid carcinoma, and 2 had an adenocarcinoma....
